Water & Municipality

Water & Municipality

In the Netherlands, in addition to the annual taxes that are to be filed and paid between March and May, there are two other additional taxes that have distinct characteristics. These taxes not only require more frequent payments but also come with penalties if missed, with the penalties increasing each month.

Tap Water Tax (BoL):
The initial tax to address is the annual water tax. This payment is processed through your regional water supplier company. For instance, if you're located in Amsterdam, you can handle this through Waternet. This tax pertains to your tap water usage and is calculated based on the volume of water consumed.

Municipality Tax:
The second tax is specific to your town or city. This tax encompasses a range of services, including maintenance of the Garbage and Sewer System. The rates for this tax vary from one municipality to another, and they are influenced by factors such as household size and composition.

To illustrate, in Amsterdam, you can refer to https://belastingbalie.amsterdam.nl/

If you live in a different municipality, simply search for "belastingbalie" or "municipality tax" along with your city's name to find the relevant website.
