Dependent Visa: Children (minor)

Dependent Visa: Children (minor)

Bringing your children with you immediately or within one year of your relocation is something that we can also help you with. On top of your own documents you will need a few more. But don't you worry, simply follow the list below, download the mentioned documents from our site, fill them out, sign them and return them to us digitally in an email:

Filled by you:

  1. A copy of your personal HSM visa: valid for at least a year.
  2. Appendix Authorisation and sponsorship declaration that you request to sponsor your spouse.
  3. Legalized/translated birth certificate: Every country has a different system but the main steps are translation to officially accepted languages and legalization of the document (official stamp to declare that the translated version is of equal value to the original). You can check your options based on your country of origin in the official site of netherlandsworldwide.

Filled by your child:

  1. Copy of the passport of your child: it needs to be valid for at least 1 year.
  2. Clean Criminal Record Declaration: Everyone who is above the age of 12 must fill in the Appendix Antecedents Certificate, to indicate whether you have ever committed an offence or crime and pose a danger to the public or national security.
  3. Declare that your child will undergo a TB (tuberculosis) test after arriving in the Netherlands: unless your nationality is on the TB test exemption list.

In case both parents are not travelling together with their underaged child apart from the above documents on the day of the flight you will also need the below documents. In case you don't, the airline can deny boarding:

  • Permission statement with copy of proof of identity of the parent remaining behind.
  • Documents proving legal custody.

The above is the list of the requested documents in 2025. You can find the updated list in the official IND site.

Important:

*** IND the definition of children is minor, so under 18 years old on the date of relocation! ***

Adult Child

It is usually not possible to bring a child aged 18 or older to the Netherlands.

Child Aged 18 to 25
Is your child between the ages of 18 and 25? In this case, you can usually still bring your child to the Netherlands in the following situations:

  • Your child always lived with you until your departure to the Netherlands.
  • Your child has no partner or family of their own.
  • Your child does not have enough income to support themselves.

Child Aged 25 or Older
You can only bring your child aged 25 or older to the Netherlands if there is a special dependency relationship between you and your child. This means that your child cannot live without your care, for example, due to serious medical problems.

Military Service
If your child was under the age of 18 when you left for the Netherlands and stayed behind for compulsory military service, your child can come to the Netherlands after completing their service.
