Sick Leave

Sick Leave

For temporary employees, understanding the nuances of sick leave policies is crucial especially since the Dutch process might vary from your home county's. This guide aims to clarify the process and entitlements, ensuring you know exactly what to do if you fall ill.

Reporting sickness

  • Prompt Notification: It's imperative to report your illness as soon as possible, ideally before 9 AM on the same day, to both the temporary employment agency and the client. This allows for efficient redistribution of your workload.
  • Privacy and disclosure: You are not required to give detailed information about your illness or provide a doctor’s note. However, informing the agency and client of your sick address (home, hospital, etc.) is necessary.

Different types of sick leave
 A) Temporary contracts

  • The first day is unpaid.
  • From the 2nd day, you're entitled to 90% of your daily wage.
  • Contract Continuity: If your contract ends during a period of sickness, we will apply for Sickness Benefits Act via UWV on your behalf.

C) Hourly wage basis: If you're paid hourly, you will not receive a salary during periods of illness.

D) Repeated sickness: If you fall sick a second time within four weeks, you will immediately get 90% of your salary without having to wait for a day (unpaid day).

E) Long-term illness: In the first year, you receive 90% of your salary, which drops to 80% in the second year, never falling below the minimum wage.
