Internet

There are three main internet providers in the Netherlands: Odido, Ziggo, and KPN. You have the flexibility to create your preferred combination of monthly mobile, home internet, and TV subscriptions. To compare internet services in the Netherlands, you can explore offers from various broadband providers.

However, it's worth noting that only Ziggo offers same-day activation. With other providers, you'll need to schedule an installation day visit after receiving the modem by post, which often takes in total near to a month. In my personal experience, the stated activation time on the website might be 12 days, but the actual appointment was set for 16 days later and was later rescheduled due to a holiday period.

Be careful: There's also a concern about consistency among online customer service representatives. Despite one representative committing to a specific installation day and package price, the confirmation email might provide different information. Multiple phone conversations with various companies highlighted discrepancies, possibly due to insufficient training or inadequate note-taking by these representatives. Additionally, not all customer care employees at physical stores are well-trained. While some are knowledgeable and helpful, others lack essential information. Being present on-site doesn't necessarily guarantee accurate knowledge.

I personally encountered a frustrating experience. Despite obtaining a bank account and housing contract at the beginning of March, it took changing internet service providers three times before I finally had internet access by the end of April. Imagine enduring almost two months without internet in an apartment while engaging with at least two people daily on the phone, only to have them deny previous conversations.

Regarding technical issues, it's important to be cautious. Seeking technical assistance through online customer support over will end up at arranging an appointment with no cost to you. However, if you visit the onsite shop and request for technical assistance appointment,  they will change you a fee for booing that appointment (the same appointment if booked online is for free at least for the first time).

**A helpful tip to secure a good deal is to visit a local MediaMarkt store, where some of the aforementioned companies have booths. These companies often provide better prices for new customers. Just remember to cancel the discounted contract a month before renewal to avoid automatic upgrading to the regular higher price, which could result in fines if cancelled afterward.**
